Disneyland May27

Disneyland is the happiest place on earth!  As you can see from the featured picture, Chase was pretty excited to be at Disneyland.  It all started on his 8th birthday.  Alicia and I gave him a Book of Mormon and “encouraged” him to read it.  We gave him a pencil with the book and told him to cross out every single verse after he read it.  He would also put a big cross through every page after he had completed it.  We thought that this would be a good way for him to see his progress and not get too overwhelmed by the 500+ pages.  To sweeten the pot we told him that once he had completed the book, then we would take him on a trip with just Alicia and I to Disneyland.  Some people might consider this bribery… I would have to agree 🙂

So, it started where Chase and I would wake up at 6:00 AM every morning and ready our scriptures side by side.  It transformed into a routine that Chase followed all by himself.  He simply made it a priority and habit in his life to read from his Book of Mormon every single day.  Sure enough he finished the book in about 10 months.  Not too bad for an 8-year-old.  The first time that I finished the Book of Mormon was when I was 19 years-old and I was in the missionary training center in Provo “preparing” to preach the restored gospel in Brazil.  I am glad that Chase is going to be so much more prepared to serve as a missionary than I was.  I know that he will be better than me in every aspect of his life.  Anyway, I was proud to see him faithfully persist in accomplishing his goal.  Alicia and I have always been extremely impressed with Chase.  There are so many amazing things about him.  He is a go getter and a leader.

Disneyland was an amazing experience!  The weather was perfect and there were not very many people in the park.  For example, the wait for California Screamin’ was only about 10 minutes most of the day.  We spent most of our time on the big rides.  It was the first time for all of us to go to the California Adventure side of the park.  I actually preferred it over the Disneyland side.  We were even able to get front row seats to the World of Color which was quite amazing.

What made the trip extra nice was that we prayed for opportunities to share our testimonies.  Our prayers were answered!  Alicia and Chase were able to talk about Book of Mormon with a couple at the hotel pool.  We also had a pretty good discussion with a family while waiting in line for the Toy Story ride.  Last, at the very end of our trip we had a long discussion with a family on the bus.  I spoke with the husband who was a pastor, while Alicia sat next to and spoke with the wife.  They were from Canada.

It was a fantastic trip filled with cherished memories!
