Christmas Lights

Christmas is almost here!  Okay, maybe we are a little early, but there is something about putting up your lights when it is 70 degrees that is much better than when it is freezing!

The kids did not have school since it was Fall Break, so Chase and I took advantage of the opportunity have our FatherMoment in the middle of the day, when it was a little warmer.  Chase knew that I was planning on putting up the lights, and decided to turn it into our date.

As always, we started the process by dusting off the lights and getting them untangled.  We then went through the process of testing every strand and fixing the broken lights.  We averaged about 5 broken lights per strand, so this took a little longer than we had anticipated.  We actually ran out of replacement bulbs and were forced to make a quick run to Lowes to get the parts we needed.

The best part was, of course, getting up on top of the roof.  Once we were up there, Chase admitted that it was a little scarier than he thought it was going to be.  He stayed far from the edge while I hung the lights with care.

After stringing lights on the house, we decided to wrap the three trees that line our driveway.  This was a little more work, and actually the point where Chase said, “Dad, can our date be over?”.  This reminded me of all the dates I went on in high school when the poor girls wanted it to end!

Now, the only thing that we have to do is wait for our neighbors to hang their lights in the snow while we watch them from inside our fire heated home, sipping hot cocoa!
