Blue Gills

Chase was a little slow to get out of bed this morning so we were a little rushed.  We decided to have our devotional in the car, which ended up being the memorization of 1 Nephi 3:7, “And it came to pass that I, Nephi, said unto my father: I PowerBaitwill go and do the things which the Lord hath commanded, for I know that the Lord giveth no commandments unto the children of men, save he shall prepare a way for them that they may Donutaccomplish the things which he commandeth them.”  Chase has a good mind and had this memorized quite quickly.

We didn’t have any bait so we ended up stopping by Walmart where Chase picked out some power bait.  While we were there we grabbed a little breakfast.  Chase went with a donut and I went with a banana, since I am not eating any sugar until I get back down to 8% body fat.

TackleBoxWhile driving Chase told me about the last time that he came to Adventure Land Learning Park when he caught 20 small blue gill fish.  I told him a story about the time Chase Tandy, Devin Tandy, Seppo Renae and I swam across the pond at Adventure Land and got attacked by a duck.  Devin was the Chase’s little brother and, at the time, couldn’t swim as fast as us.  So, when the duck started swimming towards us and we started swimming for our lives, poor Devin fell behind and was the victim.  The duck start aggressively pecking at his head.  He kept taking a breath and Fishingdiving under water to escape, but every time he surfaced the duck was back at him.  It was a funny memory!  Today Devin is a world champion tri-athlete.  I wonder if this experience motivated him throughout his life to make sure he would never be the slowest swimmer again.

There was a trickling rain the whLakeole time we were fishing.  It made for a cool morning.  Chase is funny because he doesn’t like using a fishing pole and casting out to where the bigger fish are; instead he likes to just hold a fishing line in his hands with a hook on the end that he can dangle from the docks.  There were a lot of little fish, but Chase was having a hard time hooking them.  He finally was able to catch one using a piece of shrimp that we found on the ground.

It was a great morning!
